Flagship video of projects in Kenya and Tanzania

Posted Tuesday 31 October 2017 by Eva Wissenz.

After a year of operation with support of our sponsor and with our local partners, we are happy to present our achievements in Kenya and Tanzania.

Our local partners are ensuring the follow up of the project as well as data collection to prepare scale up.

Several communities have been equipped with our SOL5 device and have successfully adopted the technology to bake, roast peanuts or dehydrate fish, increasing income, decreasing charcoal use and improving working conditions.

It has been an exciting and challenging year and all the team contributed to make it a success, welcoming also new motivated people to make this world a better place for all.

GoSol speaks at Autodesk University

Posted Wednesday 4 October 2017 by Urs Riggenbach.

Our Executive Chairman, Eerik Wissenz, was a speaker invited to the last Autodesk University in Cape Town, South Africa, on September 7th and 8th.

During his talk, "Breaking the poverty cycle with solar entrepreneurship", he presented the results of our pilot projects in Kenya and Tanzania and our full model to break the poverty circle in developing countries. He also highlighted the work we’ve done in San Francisco at Autodesk’s facilities and how we’ve used Autodesk tools to improve our engineering and design process.

Autodesk Foundation also hosted round table talks to discuss and share experiences and challenges in sub-Saharan Africa.

Solar Fire at AutoDesk University

We just got back from the Impact Summit organized by Autodesk Foundation in parallel to AutoDesk University in Las Vegas. We participated as a grantee project supported by the AutoDesk Foundation

The Impact Summit was an amazing event. All the impact organizations and startups supported by Autodesk Foundation were able to meet and share experiences as well as participate in interesting discussions and panels.

In addition to the Impact Summit we also took part in the broader AutoDesk University program so we could benefit from increasing our design skills and seeing the latest and greatest software and prototyping tools in the engineering world.

Big thanks to the whole AutoDesk Foundation Team for organizing the event and supporting so many great impact projects!

After recovering from the 10 hour jet-lag between Nevada and Finland, here are few snapshots from our week-long stay in Las Vegas.

"Welcome to Autodesk U!" Team members Eerik Wissenz and Arnaud Crétot attended the AutoDesk University 2016 in Last Vegas.
As part of the week-long conference we met with other Autodesk Foundation grantees

Autodesk Foundation supports GoSol / Solar Fire

Posted Wednesday 3 August 2016 by Eva Wissenz.

Our team is very happy to announce that the Autodesk Foundation (USA) has committed to support our work with a USD 100,000 grant and a very exciting support program.

And here is what Autodesk’s team is saying about our work: "We’re impressed with Solar Fire’s design-driven approach to bringing commercial-scale solar thermal to Kenyan small businesses. A simple but powerful design + technical rigor + end user feedback = true impact."

The discussion with Autodesk team started months ago and in April they were able to go Kenya, meet with Lorin and World Vision team. They could check directly our work and after a few more phone meetings and intense questions/answers process they said "yes". It’s very important for us because our project is ambitious, as ambitious as the problem we want to solve, and Autodesk Foundation can connect us with important players, help us improve so many aspects of our work and we are going to learn a lot!

But first of all the support of Autodesk team enables us staying focused on impact and accelerating on the ground, starting in Kenya. We want to thank all our business partners, our first sponsors, all the members of the GoSol community, and all our families and friends who supported us and believed in our vision to spread solar energy among all.

We are thrilled!! Our #FreeTheSun video presenting our project, tech and spirit has reached 46 749 views on Youtube... Wow!! Let’s hope the coming gifts and products will spread like this and there will be for sure a much more optimistic energy future for humanity (and forests, and plants).

GoSol - What We Do and Why

Posted Friday 15 April 2016 by Will Cleaver.

At GoSol team spirits means a lot to us. Since a few years now, no matter if we work
together from different corners of the globe or not, no matter the huge ups and downs of every project, we share the same spirit and working together on our own solar projects around the world was and still is a deep joy.

With the idea of creating simple and efficient solar technology that can be built easily we want to provide clean energy to anyone that wants to use it. We are now at the stage where we have, with the SOL4, a great simple design that works wonderfully, and is very powerful and cost effective.

What we wanted to share with you in this video is the path we have walked. It is immensely satisfying to have gotten to the point where we are now with the coming release of the SOL4 guide. It’s all about providing the knowledge for people to create solar energy powered options to live in a sustainable way.
